sick and tired

who gets sick in the middle of summer?  this week has been a battle of staying at work all day and trying to not cough too loud at my desk.  it has pretty much ruined my week of workouts. I got 2 good ones in and that's about it.  I'll have to redeem myself for tomorrow's long run.
this same thing happened last year during my marathon training. I can run all year long everyday and not get sick but the second I sign up for a marathon I end up with the flu and a sinus infection within 2 weeks of each other DURING SUMMER.
there's always hope for next week though.

Saturday run in the summer=my perfect day

This Saturday morning proved to be my favourite kind of all.  I woke up, had some toast, lolly gagged for awhile, and was out the door for my endurance run all by 9am.
By the time I got out the door it was blazing hot.  Humidity, cicadas, glaring sun, not a cloud in the sky--perfect summer day in Auckland.  I ended up running without my shirt on.  It was just too hot and I don't mind getting a tan either.  I felt so good and theoretically could've kept going if necessary. I realize that my perfect summer Saturday runs in New Zealand are coming to an end. Not only is it the end of summer, but before long we'll be on a plane to Arizona.  Which is why I'm heading to the beach for the rest of this beautiful afternoon!

struggle

My Saturday run didn't happen this week.  I've been battling flu like symptoms all week.  When Saturday morning rolled around I knew that I didn't have the strength or will power to make a 13 mile run happen.  I'm disappointed only because it's so early in my training.  But, I'm choosing not to lose sleep over it.  I know I will be better off if I rest properly and train great next week.  There isn't much benefit to making up the long run back to back with another workout.  So, life goes on.  I'll be ready for the 15 miler endurance run next Saturday.
