my worst nightmare

Here it goes...

I. did. Zumba.

My ridiculously sweet mother asked me to go with her to a Friday morning class.  After all she does for me, I did not have the heart to say no.  You do realize this is my working out nightmare.  I H.A.T.E. dancing/marching/arm swinging/dance moves/syncorinazation.  It is just not for me.  I am much better at jock sports that require zero fancy moves.

The first half went well...kind of.  My heart rate was definintely raised.  I will not doubt that.  I was working and sweating.  The second half was a complete joke.  I could not successfully complete a dance move to save my life.  Hats off to stay at home moms who rock their hips and march in place.  You are special.

the random half marathon

Yesterday we ran 13.1 miles.   We ran a great practice half marathon.  We "crossed the line" at 1 hr 48 min.  That is 9 minutes off from my very best half marathon time.  I feel great about our little practice race considering we just did it ourselves around town.  This is definitely a high point in my summer running.

I also tried deep water training this week. So fun.  It is times like that I am reminded that I do love the ocean and I miss it so much.

I wonder what we will accomplish next week?

summer miles

This summer I have averaged approximately 25 miles per week.
This works out to be a few normal length runs during the week and a long run on Saturdays.  I have also been attending yoga once a week and lifting 3-4 days per week.

This sums up my summer training thus far.  This week I am running a 5k race.  My goal time is 20:00.  Yee'go.

I am also going to give swimming laps a shot.  I am ready to incorporate something new in my workout and I think this is it.

Truthfully, I have some confessions to make.  There are some things I have done wrong this summer.  I am a dutifully conscious runner with my food intake.  However, I admit that I have let me usual strict guidelines fall to the wayside.  I have done this consciously.  I am always so uptight about it.  It hasn't too much.  I admit that I am ready to get back on the horse of conscious healthy eating though.

I have mentioned before that I have had a hard time coming back to American food.  The lifestyle of huge portions, fast food, and preservatives has not come back to me.  I rarely crave Mexican food.  How weird is that?  The grease and overeating just overtake my appetite to appreciate it.  I still don't drink pop.  I quit drinking pop in high school and have never regained my love of it.  I don't even drink juices!!

In light of the aformentioned slip of food discipline, I have a few things in mind that will be reinstated to my regular routine.

1.  get out of the clean plate club
2.  stop feeling obligated to taste dessert just because it is there
3.  start cooking at home

Well folks, last week I ran 12 miles.  This is my longest summer so far.  It was magical.  I am sure I will up it to 13 or 14 next Saturday.

the good and bad

What can I say?  The Homolovi Race did not go well.  I do not really want to talk about it.
I live and learn from this.  Nothing more needs to be said.

Now, I would like to start putting my eggs into another basket.  I would like to turn my focus back to fine tuning my half marathon time.  No plans yet of a course or a date, however that is the focus I would like to take.

I would also like to share that today we ran 4, 8, 4 --rest-- 8, 4, 8   my last 8 was a 3:03.  How cool is that?

I am getting majorly interested in Yasso 800s.  If there is truth to them, then I have potential for my next marathon.

Cheers
